A lot of today's security is based on trust and restriction of physical access. But keys, cards and passwords can easily be stolen or intentionally handed over to someone else. Another common problem with passwords and pin codes is that they are easily forgotten. Writing them down, or using the same password or pin code over and over again, reduces security significantly.
The SmartFinger® sensor can be used to secure access to computers, storage devices such as USB memory sticks or portable hard drives, and other related peripherals.
The SmartFinger® Film sensor can be integrated into any laptop, notebook or tablet PC, and computer accessories such as keyboards and mice. This will eliminate the need for passwords, thereby increasing security and reducing costs.
In addition, different fingers can be used to imply different behaviours, for example launching various Web sites. At the same time, the enrolled finger can provide user names and passwords on restricted web sites.
The use of memory cards and USB memory sticks has been widely adopted as a convenient way of saving and moving files. At the same time this implies a major security risk as anyone can access the content of the memory device.
Introducing biometric authentication to unlock data ensures that only people with registered biometric characteristics and access rights are able to read or alter the saved content on a given USB stick.
The SmartFinger® Film sensor has the market's smallest and thinnest footprint, allowing it to be integrated into a USB memory stick without increasing the physical dimensions of the device. Furthermore, the registration and authentication of the user is kept entirely on the USB memory stick, making the process totally independent of the host computer.
